Why wasn't Jesus sent to earth at later time?

Aside from saying it was "God's plan," why was it about 2000 years ago instead of the 20th century where there was more global communication. He could have spread his word more effectively through a larger media. Back then, it was only a very localized to one region. It took hundreds of years for the word of Christianity to propagate throughout the world. And what is 2000 years on the time line of eternity?
